Welcome

Hello Everyone!

I decided to start this blog so that I could post pictures and update everyone while I am on my trip to Peru. I should be able to do this several times throughout my trip. One week from today I will be on a plane headed towards Peru!

For all of those who aren't familiar with the trip, it is a WSU faculty-led program titled Health Care in Peru. There are about 20 nursing students, 5 pharmacy students, and 3 faculty members going. We will fly into Lima on May 19th and sleep overnight in the airport until our early morning flight to Iquitos where we will be from May 20-29, then to a village in the jungle on the Amazon from May 29-31, then back to Iquitos from June 1-3. During these dates we will be learning about the Peruvian culture and their health care. While we are in Iquitos we will be staying at a compound ran by an organization called People of Peru (peopleofperu.org). This organization is also providing us with interpreters and guides. We will be running clinics and doing some sight-seeing. Then, from June 3-7 we will become tourists (we get to sleep in a hotel) and go to Cusco and see Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley. Then we will fly home on June 8.

I am hoping to have a trip of a lifetime and I hope that this is just the beginning of trips like this for me. I want to say a very special thank you to my parents who have taken on the responsibility of caring for my children for these 3 weeks while I will be gone; without them this trip would be impossible. I can rest assured knowing that they are in good hands...have fun with them mom and dad.

I will update this once I get there and hopefully have some pictures!
